Inmate Briefly Escapes From Oneida County Jail
Oriskany, NY (WIBX) - There was a brief jail break from the Oneida County Correctional Facility this afternoon around 2:20. Sheriff Robert Maciol says 25-year-old John Santoro escaped from a recreation area, but was quickly captured a short distance from the facility in Oriskany by deputies. Santoro, who is back behind bars, is now facing a felony escape charge in addition to the 9 charges that landed him in the county lock-up in the first place. Officials have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident.
According to prison records, Santoro is a white male from Rome, who was being held in the facility in Oriskany on the following charges since June 2012:
- Rape 1st Degree
- Kidnapping 2nd Degree
- Criminal Sexual Act 1st Degree
- Aggravated Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree
- Aggravated Criminal Contempt
- Criminal Contempt 1st Degree
- Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree
- Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree
- Tampering With Witness 4th Degree
