Two missing persons from the City of Oneida were struck and killed by a train over the weekend.

The man and woman, both of whom were 59 years old, were killed at the railroad crossing at Fox Road in the Town of Verona on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

The CSX Railroad called 911 after the freight train's operator reported hitting the two, who were standing in the path of the eastbound train.

The two were reported missing by their son, who had called police after his father contacted him stating "that he was sorry for what he was about to do" before he ended the call.  The wife's mental capacity is believed to have been diminished because of a brain aneurism from which she was recovering at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.

A suicide note was found in the husband vehicle near the scene.

The investigation by police and CSX is continuing.
