Cuomo Announces Latest Round Of Rail Safety Inspections
Another round of rail safety safety inspections in New York is complete.
The inspections targeted crude oil tank cars and railroad tracks.
Governor Andrew Cuomo's Office says inspectors uncovered 93 defects, including seven critical safety defects that required immediate corrective action and two hazardous materials violations.
Inspectors examined about five miles of CSX tracks in Syracuse and Oneida and found five non-critical defects.
The safety inspections are the latest in a series of actions that state agencies are taking to protect New Yorkers from the potential dangers associated with the transportation of crude oil by freight rail companies.
State and federal teams have examined 453 crude oil tank cars and about 148 miles of track in the inspections.
