Governor Andrew Cuomo is announcing an $18.9 million project to replace the bridge carrying Route 8 over the Routes 5 and 12 interchange in the Town of New Hartford.

Cuomo says replacement of the bridge will enhance the regional competitiveness of agricultural and manufacturing industries in the region.

He says Route 8 is an essential north-south freight corridor serving agribusinesses and manufacturers in the Mohawk Valley and across New York State.

By investing in critical travel corridors such as this one on Route 8, New York continues to provide unprecedented support to facilitate growth in upstate agricultural and manufacturing sectors," Cuomo said. "At the end of the day this work will help retain and attract businesses and reduce the cost of moving goods, uplifting the regional economies in the process."

The project was identified through the development of New York State's first comprehensive Statewide Freight Plan
