A new law overhauling the way snowmobile noise emissions are measured and tested has been signed by Governor Cuomo.

The legislation is designed to get landowners to open up more snowmobile trails across the state.

Private land makes up the majority of New York's 10,500 mile snowmobile trail system.

Many property owners who choose not to open their land cite loud, illegal exhausts as the primary reason.

The measure was sponsored by Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi.

According to a recent study, snowmobiling delivers an economic impact of $866 million a year in New York state.
