The first 11 employees at Danfoss Silicon Power were welcomed to the Quad C Building at SUNY Poly on Monday.

In March, Danfoss announced it had entered into an agreement with GE to produce silicon carbide chips for power modules in Utica.

Michael Hennessey, General Manager of Danfoss Silicon Power Utica, says a majority of the new employees are local.  He says the first group of employees will be headed to Germany for training next week.

Hennessey says production at the facility should begin by mid-2018.

Danfoss, which will occupy the entire Quad C building, is expected to create up to 300 jobs over the next 15 years.

The Danfoss Executive Team was joined by local officials to mark the occasion.
