Several boarded-up buildings in West Utica that front the North-South Arterial (New York State Touring Routes 5-8-12) are going to be demolished by the NYS Department of Transportation.

The buildings that are targeted for demolition have been boarded up through the winter with signs proclaiming "NO TRESPASSING  PROPERTY OF NEW YORK STATE."  Now there are signs that the work of tearing them down has begun.

Orange construction fencing and barrels have cordoned off the condemned buildings, including this one at the corner of Fay and Stevens Streets.

This week's activity represents the first phase of a three phase, $60 million project to renovate the aging roadway.
