The North-South Arterial project has reached a major milestone.

The New York State Department of Transportation has announced the opening of a Single Point Urban Interchange.

The DOT says the SPU, located at the Arterial Interchange with Court Street, will improve safety and efficiency and make traffic flow more smoothly.

The Court Street ramps are now open as well.

“The Court Street interchange opening brings us one step closer to a safer, more efficient, modern North-South Arterial,” DOT Commissioner Matthew Driscoll said. “Enhancing access and mobility within the city supports Governor Cuomo’s commitment to improving the state’s transportation network, making it easier for businesses to thrive and prosper in New York State.”

The $66.5 million project is expected to be completed later this summer.
