State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says there are more than $12.5 billion in funds that remain unclaimed by New Yorkers.

DiNapoli wants to get this money back in the hands of state residents because he says every dollar counts when it comes to these tough economic times.

When funds from bank accounts, insurance companies and utilities remain unclaimed for three years, the accounts are handed to the Dinapoli's office for safe keeping.
