State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says there are more than $12.5 billion in funds that remain unclaimed by New Yorkers.

DiNapoli wants to get this money back in the hands of state residents because he says every dollar counts when it comes to these tough economic times.

When funds from bank accounts, insurance companies and utilities remain unclaimed for three years, the accounts are handed to the Dinapoli's office for safe keeping.

Area residents can also meets representatives from DiNapoli's office at the Great American Irish Festival July 26 &27 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on July 28 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
