There is no doubt that young people are deciding to either staying in Utica after college or return home to live their professional lives. With that, an increase in entertaining things to do.

In celebration of the revitalization of the downtown area, a local group called called Made In Utica has started an annual tradition known as the Downtown Getdown. The free and family-friendly block party celebrates the walkability of Bagg's Square and Franklin Square.

Something new to the downtown late-August party is the kick-off of the new Handshake.City. This unique shopping experience allows for crafters and other vendors to encourage small business support. The Handshake.City is located in a vacant lot on Whitesboro Street near Bagg's Square.

All of the events begin Friday, August 24th at 6pm in the Franklin Square Alley and will continue on all weekend. For a full schedule and list of events go to madeinutica.com/getdown.
