Events Planned To Celebrate New York’s Maple Season

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Nearly 200 locations are hosting events over the next month celebrating maple season in New York.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul participated in the first ceremonial tree-tapping of the season Friday at Smith's Maple Farm in the Erie County town of Boston. She noted that New York is second in the nation for maple syrup production, after Vermont.

Maple farms across the state offer tours, demonstrations and pancake breakfasts throughout the month of March. Maple Weekends will be held the last two weekends of the month at more than 180 farms and museums.

New York produced more than 800,000 gallons of maple syrup in the 2018 season, the highest in 74 years.
