Fire Guts Crossway’s Tavern In Ilion

The Crossway's Tavern in Ilion was destroyed by an early morning fire Saturday. 

Crews responded to the East Clark Street tavern at around 4:00 am, as the blaze grew from 'floor to floor to floor', Ilion Fire Chief Jim Trevett said. It took about two hours to get the fire under control, Trevett said, and each floor of the three story building collapsed onto the floor below.

There were people inside the building when the fire broke out, but no one was injured, he said.

Ilion Fire was assisted by department from Herkimer, East Herkimer, Mohawk and Frankfort.

An investigation into the cause is underway.
