Utica, NY (WIBX) - Both sides rested their case in the David Trebilcock trail. Trebilcock is facing a second degree murder charge for the stabbing death of 6-year-old Lauren Belius. Belius was stabbed to death in her Sherill home last July.

Trebilcock has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Both sides produced expert witnesses who testified that Trebilcock is a paranoid schizophrenic. Only one expert diagnosed him as Malingering with possible anti-social disorder, which suggests that Trebilcock may be faking a mental illness.

Today the defense brought in Forensic Psychiatrist, Lawrence Farago, who testified that it wasn't a tough call to diagnose Trebilcock as a paranoid schizophrenic. "From a psychiatric point of view this case is actually rather generic. The evidence is actually overwhelming that supports a pretty standard schizophrenic illness, and the person's ideas and beliefs and actions all identify that," he said.

He says even though some of Trebilcock's actions have some logic to them--such as, admitting that what he did was wrong and suggesting a 20 year sentence as punishment, to having sexual intercourse with the victim's mother, Allison Belius, six hours before he committed the murder--the origin of them are completely "off-scewed and have no basis in reality." He says his behavior is very characteristic of paranoid schizophrenics.

Judge Michael Dwyer says he'll render his verdict on Tuesday. If found guilty, Trebilcock could spend life in prison without parole.
