The Syracuse area senior at East Syracuse-Minoa High School who claims she was berated by her teacher when she refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance spoke out on Keeler this week.

Leah Hobson's story was first published in the Syracuse Post Standard over the weekend when she said that she refuses to stand because of the line, "under God" in the pledge.

Hobson told Keeler that it started when she was supporting another student who refused to stand; but, it developed into her own quiet 'opt out' until the teacher called attention to her and berated her in class.

Hobson's comments spawned dozens of phone calls, especially after she said she doesn't think "America is the best country in the world."  She later clarified the comment by saying she feels we're 'one of the best' because of the many democratic nations around the world.
