Oneida County, NY (WIBX) - Following aftermath from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, U.S. Representatives Richard Hanna and Bill Owens are lobbying President Obama to declare Oneida County a Major Disaster.

Businesses and homes throughout the county faced major damage after being hit hard with flooding twice within a two-week span. In September, New York State Senator Chuck Schumer visited the town of Whitesboro to survey damages and to ask for support.

Congressman Hanna says that he is “working closely with both Congressman Owens and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente to ensure that residents receive the assistance they need as soon as possible.”

If Oneida County is declared a Major Disaster, local governments, individual households and businesses will be considered to receive aid from FEMA, the Small Business Administration and the USDA.

Herkimer County is currently receiving FEMA aid for damages from Hurricane Irene.
