Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul made a stop in the area on Tuesday.

Hochul was at the State Office Building in Utica to deliver the 2019 State of the State and budget presentation.

Hochul also announced $6 million in funding for the Masonic Medical Research Institute in Utica.  The Life Science Award will allow MMRI to renovate its 5,500-hundred-square-foot basement area, increase laboratory space and expand research ventures.

"This investment in the Masonic Medical Research Institute will expand the facility's space and support 21st century research and development into cancer and other diseases that could help save lives," said Hochul.  "MMRI's transformation will continue to grow the industry in the area and strengthen the economy of the Mohawk Valley region."

The expansion is expected to create an additional 25 to 30 new jobs.
