Save A Lot In Rome Abruptly Closes

If you were planning to make a trip to Save A Lot on Black River Boulevard in Rome, you’re going to find the doors closed.

The store appears to have abruptly shut down, with signs going up on the doors Tuesday afternoon. There doesn’t appear to have been much warning for customers—or even some people who were working in the store.

Alyssa Kwasniewski was there when the signs were being put up and said she saw an employee putting them on the doors around 12:20 PM.

“I was cleaning there today. And I saw an employee putting up the signs, and that was how I found out,” Alyssa said.

She also said the closure may not have been a complete surprise based on what she had seen during a recent visit.

“I was in there last week and barely any product on the shelf,” she said.

Customers Were Still Showing Up

After the signs went up, people continued walking up to the store, apparently unaware that it had closed.

That’s probably the strangest part of an abrupt closure like this. One minute, it’s your neighborhood grocery store, and the next, you’re standing at the door wondering what happened.

The website still says the store is open, providing hours and the weekly flyer.

We have reached out to Save A Lot for more information about the closure and what led to the decision. So far, we have not heard back.

At this point, it’s unclear exactly when the decision was made to close the Rome location or what happens next with the building. We’ll update the story if we get more information from the company.

For now, shoppers who normally relied on Save A Lot on Black River Boulevard will have to find another place to pick up their groceries.
