
More Accidents: New York State Report Confirms Suspicions
Have you ever noticed that some roads in our area regularly have accidents? This past year it felt like some roads had an accident more than once a week.
In June 2024, the Office of the New York State Comptroller released information stating fatal car accidents were on the rise. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli issued a report titled "Moving in the Wrong Direction" - Traffic Fatalities are Growing in New York State.
Are Fatal Accidents on the Rise in New York State?
The 12-page report shows that in 2022 in the Mid Hudson Region, fatal accidents were up 6.8 percent based on their finding per 100,000 people.
It also shows how New York State is above the United States average from 2019 to 2022.

So if you are like me and were under the impression that there are a lot more accidents lately this report seems to validate that notion. I recently did a small survey on social media asking which roads in the Hudson Valley people thought were the ones with the most accidents and most of the responses were similar.

Most people who answered selected A, B, or C with C - The Bear Mountain Traffic Circle receiving the most votes.

No matter what road you travel whether it be a highway or a Hudson Valley back road there is always a chance for an accident that is why more than ever we should be staying alert, driving sober, and putting down the phone.
