Syracuse University has extended the contract of Jim Boeheim beyond next season.

It was believed that the 2017-18 campaign - what will be Boeheim's 42nd on SU sidelines - would be his last. Although when questioned recently, the coach seemed non-committal to that timeline.

Terms of the extension were not disclosed, but the news came not long after reports that longtime assistant coach, Mike Hopkins - the man previously named as Boeheim's successor - accepted a six-year deal to takeover as head coach of the Washington Huskies men's team.

The Syracuse men missed this season's NCAA tournament and were bounced from the NIT by Ole Miss on Saturday.

The lingering question: Did SU extend Boeheim's deal because Hopkins left, or did Hopkins leave because he knew the deal was pending and was tired for waiting for his shot to lead the Orange?

Either way, Sunday's news is big for 'Cuse fans. So, we ask you: are you happy Boeheim is staying? Take our poll and let us know.
