The Oneida County Health Department says an injured kitten found in the Westmoreland-area had to be euthanized due to the effects of rabies.

The Health Department recently received confirmation that the cat tested positive for rabies. Officials say no positive human cases have been reported in connection with the incident.

They say to report any sick or strange acting wildlife and don not approach any animal if it's acting in a strange or unusual manner

They're also reminding everyone to make sure their pets and livestock are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

The Oneida County Health Department has their next Rabies Clinic on August 7, 2017 at the Vienna Highway Garage from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
