Local Law Enforcement Mourning The Loss Of An Oneida County Deputy
The local law enforcement community is mourning the loss of one of its own this morning.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Wayne Smoulcey passed away Wednesday after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sheriff Rob Maciol says, Smoulcey served as a police officer for more than 15 years. He began his career at the Kirkland Police Department, before transferring to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Maciol said of Smoulcey, "Truly a guy who served his community and county 24 hours a day. He and his wife are expecting their second child in just a few short weeks."
Smoulcey was also the Fire Chief of the Willowvale Fire Department.
