VERONA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a man used a jack to lift a mail truck off his 75-year-old brother's chest after the vehicle rolled onto him during a crash on a central New York road.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says Dale Durant was driving an all-terrain vehicle across a road in the town of Verona Wednesday afternoon when he steered in front of a U.S. Postal Service delivery truck.

The mail truck hit the ATV, causing it to come to a rest in a meadow with Durant trapped underneath the truck.

Deputies say Durant's brother Peter was able to lift the truck partially off Durant's chest with a jack.

Police say Durant is listed in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
