Maryland Man Facing DWI Charges and Deportation Following Traffic Stop In Rome
A Maryland man is facing DWI charges and possible Deportation.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol, deputies received several calls to be on the lookout for a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Route 365 in Rome.
Rome Fire Department was responding to a separate call when they came over the hill and discovered they were head on with the 2003 Camry. Rome Fire then blocked the route until deputies arrived.
An investigation revealed that 41-year-old Shashikantbhai Patel was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with Aggravated DWI and other charges.
The Sheriff's Office was later contacted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement inquiring about Patel. ICE then issued a detainer warrant holding him for deportation from the U.S.
