Mohawk Valley Health System will be making some changes at both hospitals this month.

The organization will be consolidating its Cardiac Services Program, including catheterizations and angioplasty procedures, to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

The procedures are currently performed at both St. Elizabeth and Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare.  Open heart surgery is done at SEMC through the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute.

MVHS will also be closing a 15-bed medical/surgery unit at St. E's, as well as consolidating a limited number of support services.

Officials say the consolidation of the cardiac program will centralize the service and support greater quality and efficiency.

48 employees will be impacted by the changes.
