Another two dozen loft apartments are headed for Downtown Utica.

The Hayner Hoyt Corporation, based in Syracuse, has purchased 310 Broad Street with plans to construct 24, one- and two-bedroom loft style apartments. Hayner Hoyt President Jeremy Thurston says the building has another 10,000-feet of commercial space as well.

Many remember 310 Broad as the former home to ConMed's corporate offices.

At ceremonial groundbreaking event on Monday, Thurston said the company has done redevelopment projects in the Syracuse area, but this is their first effort in Utica.

''The Baggs Square area in general is a great opportunity for redevelopment of a lot of these older properties. And, I think being so close to the downtown area and some of the other things that are coming we were just excited to be apart of it,'' Thurston said.

Thurston said both of his parents grew up in Utica, and his father, two of his siblings and he himself are all Utica College graduates.
