The Delaware County Sheriff’s office has some new, four-legged members of the force, and they are not police dogs.

Six officers recently graduated with their horses to join the County’s mounted patrol that was re-established in 2012.

The patrol is made up of a team of officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout the County, lead by Delaware Undersheriff Craig DuMond.

The graduates are Sergeant Jody Proffitt and Special Deputy Liz Telian of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Constable Steve Williamson of the Town of Roxbury, Chief Brian DiLorenzo of the Hancock Police Department and Josh Williamson of the Deposit Police Department.

In addition to being used in regular police work, the patrol will appear at parades, festivals and fairs and are a public relations tool, making officers more approachable to the public.
