Mystery Solved…Giant Eyeball Belongs To Swordfish
Tallahassee, FL (WIBX) - Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say that the giant eyeball is from a swordfish, they think.
They will not be one hundred percent certain until a genetic test is performed but Curator of Collections for the FWC Joan Herrera says, "Experts on site and remotely have viewed and analyzed the eye, and based on its color, size, and structure, along with the presence of bone around it," and believe that the eye came from a swordfish.
Cuts visible around the eye indicate that it was most likely a fisherman's catch, and the eyeball was discarded. Swordfish can weigh more than 1,100 pounds and are fished in the Florida Straits at this time of year.
