The Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center site has been chosen as a new Empire State Regional Center of Excellence.

Under the plan released by the State Office of Mental Health, the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center will merge with the Greater Binghamton Health Center and the Hutchings Psychiatric Center in Syracuse to form the Empire Upstate RCE.

The center will have two inpatient campuses, including one in Utica with a capacity of 75 beds serving children and adolescents.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says the designation will provide better care and save 80 local jobs.
