After a little bit of confusion with different entities rushing to be the first to present information on the newly-enacted New York SAFE Act, Governor Cuomo's office has officially launched both a website and telephone number to which those wanting more information can turn.

The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 is touted on the website as giving New York "the most comprehensive gun laws in the nation."  Critics say that those facets which make it the most "comprehensive" also make the new laws the most restrictive, but that is a topic that is expected to be debated for a long time to come.

In the interim, a telephone number is also available for those who have questions about the law.  The number is: 1-855-LAW-GUNS.  It is, for the time being at least, answered by a human being.

Those answering the lines say they do not know how long the number will be in place, only that they have been told that the state expects an "influx" of calls.
