ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is moving to require health warning signs in shops that sell vaping devices following hundreds of cases of lung illnesses believed to be related to the habit.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the move on Monday. He advised people not to use vaping devices while health investigators figure out the cause of the illnesses.

Cuomo, a Democrat, also announced that the state will issue subpoenas to three companies that sell a vaping additive containing Vitamin E. Health officials in New York are investigating whether the additive could play a role in making people sick.

U.S. health officials have identified about 450 possible illness cases in 33 states.

No single device or ingredient has been tied to all the illnesses.
