NEW YORK (AP) — It's being called a "potentially historic" storm that could blanket the Northeast with up to 2 feet of snow and officials are urging residents to prepare for the worst.

A blizzard warning has been issued for a 250-mile stretch of the northeast, including New York and Boston.

Forecasters say the massive storm will bring heavy snow, powerful winds and widespread coastal flooding starting Monday through Tuesday.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says the 1 to 2 feet of snow expected could be among the worst the city has seen. He urged residents to stay home on Monday or plan to leave work early.

Boston could get 18 to 24 inches of snow. Philadelphia could see up to a foot of snow.
