ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The state has awarded $4.9 million to help preserve six farms in upstate New York.

The money from the state's Farmland Protection program will preserve 2,843 acres in central, western and northern New York through conservation easements. The grants will go to land trusts and conservancies, which will manage the farmland.

New York has awarded nearly $238 million for farmland protection projects over the past two decades.
