NY Man Acquitted In Wife Slaying Charged With DWI

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man whose fourth trial in the slaying of his wife ended in his acquittal faces drunken driving charges.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton reports that 56-year-old Cal Harris was charged Friday night in Cortland County with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater.

Harris' fourth trial in the murder of his wife, Michele, ended with his acquittal last year. Two previous guilty verdicts were overturned and a third trial ended in a mistrial. Michele Harris disappeared in 2001. Her body was never found.

Harris told the newspaper the arrest was "another pathetic attempt" by state police.

Harris has filed a lawsuit against local officials his attorney claims have "targeted, hunted and pursued" him for 15 years.
