NY National Guard Members Aiding Trees For Troops Program
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) — Members of the Army and Air National Guard will be at an upstate New York tree farm to help load Christmas trees for delivery to U.S. troops across the nation and the world.
The guardsmen and airmen will be joined by local veterans Monday morning at the Ellms Tree Farm in Ballston Spa in Saratoga County.
About 135 Christmas trees will be loaded onto FedEx trucks and delivered to U.S. military bases as part of the Trees for Troops program. It's the 13th year that the tree farm has participated in the program.
Members of the Air National Guard's Schenectady County-based 109th Airlift Wing are currently deployed in support of scientific research in Antarctica. Also this holiday season, some 250 soldiers from the New York Army National Guard are deployed to Afghanistan, Kuwait or Ukraine.
