BIG FLATS, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they'll resume searching along an upstate New York river for a man wanted on warrants in three states.

State police say troopers on Monday approached a suspicious vehicle parked along the Chemung River in the town of Big Flats, near the Pennsylvania border 75 miles southwest of Syracuse.

After questioning two people in the vehicle, troopers learned the driver had a suspended New York license and the passenger was 39-year-old Jeffrey Rumsey of Campbell, New York, who's wanted on warrants in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Rumsey fled on foot to the river and was last seen on a small patch of land in the middle. Troopers believe he re-entered the water in an attempt to get away.

Police searched the river Monday night and Tuesday. They plan to resume the search Wednesday.
