The New York State Sheriff's Association has joined as a "friend of the court" in a lawsuit brought by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, challenging several provisions of the SAFE Act.

Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says the amicus brief will support the main suit by setting forth legal arguments against the SAFE Act specifically from the view of law enforcement.

Maciol says some of the arguments contained in the brief are that the law is vague and does not provide sufficient guidance to law enforcement.

The next court date in the lawsuit is set for August 23rd.
