An off-duty Rome Police officer chased and caught a robbery suspect shortly after finishing his work day on Monday.

Rome Police say officer Michael Uhl saw a teenager grab a wallet from an out of town bicyclist on the 400 block of North James Street and flee on foot.

Uhl, who was stopped at a light at the corner of North James and West Embargo Streets, gave chase and caught the suspect following a short foot pursuit.

The 17-year old, whose name is being withheld due to possible youthful offender status, is charged with robbery, grand larceny and criminal mischief.
