Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri is employing a rarely used State Real Property Tax law to seize four abandoned properties in the city.

Palmieri is making use of Title 19-A, which allows the city to take the title to abandoned homes without needing to wait for them to be foreclosed on.

Compared to the current tax foreclosure process, Title 19-A cuts the time required to seize a property in half.

The process spares the home from falling into disrepair, thus allowing the property to be maintained and eventually sold.

Among the places targeted for action are 1200 Lenox Avenue, 1331 Sunset Avenue, 1111 Park Avenue and 526 Saint Anthony Street.
