Yorkville, NY (WIBX) - Four Oneida County Assistant Fire Coordinators were appointed to serve as Liaisons between the County's Department of Emergency Services and local Volunteer Fire Departments. County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr., said the fire officials serve in roles that represent the backbone of the community. "I want to thank these four gentleman's, in addition to the volunteer duties that they have with their own respective departments and the time they put in, for accepting these roles today and working with us as we continue to improve the public safety aspect of our county, especially in the fire service," Picente said.

The four appointees are:

  • Brian McQueen, assigned to conduct Training is the former Chief of Whitesboro Fire Department, former President of the Fireman's Association of NYS, 30+ year member of the Whotesboro FD. McQueen retired from the Whitesboro School system.
  • Jared Pearl, who will undertake Special Operations duties, is a New York State Police Sergeant, member of the Maynard Fire Department, and member of the county Hazardous Material Team.
  • Glen Block, is assigned to handle Public Education and is the former Chief of Oriskany Fire Department and trainer for the Oneida County Fireman's Association.
  • Mike Carl, will work in Communications is described as a nationally recognized expert in Emergency Communications. Officials say he also has clearance for access to all levels of local, state and federal radio communication.

Picente says the County is in the process of updating its Arson Control Plan, and the four appointees will also provide their expertise to assist those efforts.
