ULSTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police in the Hudson Valley say a car struck two pedestrians, killing one person and leaving the other hospitalized in serious condition.

Police in the Town of Ulster say a 38-year-old driver struck 36-year-old Jaime Mengel and 26-year-old Alexander Terwilligar while they were walking in the northbound lane of Ulster Avenue early Sunday morning. The Daily Freeman reports both victims were treated at the scene.

Mengel was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries. Terwillegar was taken a Poughkeepsie hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
