CARLTON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a woman found in a western New York ravine last week has been identified as that of a Rochester woman reported missing earlier this year.

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office says the badly decomposed was found Thursday at the bottom of a ravine in the town of Carlton, on Lake Ontario 30 miles west of Rochester.

Police on Monday said the body was been identified by medical examiners as that of 35-year-old Nakia Bedell, who had been missing since May.

Officials say it's not clear how she died or whey she was in the ravine. Sheriff's deputies, state police and Rochester police are investigating.

Family members say Bedell was the mother of seven children.
