SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the man who they say stole a AAA flatbed truck and led police on a wild chase through Syracuse before being shot by officers.

Syracuse police say the truck was reported stolen around 1 p.m. Monday while an AAA driver was helping a motorist. Police say 26-year-old Christopher Hicks jumped in the cab of the truck and drove off.

The truck driver's employer was able to track the truck's movement by its GPS and alerted police. Officials say Hicks refused to pull over and began ramming police cars and hitting civilian vehicles while fleeing through the city.

Officials say officers opened fire on him when he drove toward the cops and pedestrians. The chase ended when he hit a firetruck.

Hicks is in stable condition. Police say he's facing charges.
