MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. (AP) — New York state police say a 22-year-old driver had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he drove the wrong way on the state Thruway and hit another car.

The crash happened at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Pleasant.

Police say Sawyer White, of White Plains, was driving south in the northbound lanes when he hit a car driven by 62-year-old Michael Ioannidis head on.

Both drivers were taken to Westchester Medical Center. Ioannidis was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. White was evaluated and released.

White was arrested on multiple charges including driving while intoxicated.

Police say his blood alcohol level was 0.27 percent. That's more than three times the legal intoxication limit.

It's not clear if White has a lawyer who could speak for him.
