SPRING, Texas (AP) — A man is in custody after police say he went on a shooting rampage at a suburban Houston home, killing four of his children and two adults and wounding his 15-year-old daughter critically.

Investigators say they plan to charge the man Thursday, a day after the rampage in a usually quiet middle-class subdivision in Spring, Texas.

Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Gilliland describes the dead as two boys, ages 4 and 14; two girls, ages 7 and 9; a 39-year-old man; and a 33-year-old woman. He says the gunman and his wife are estranged, and she was out of state Wednesday. All the children were theirs. Two were adopted.

After a chase, the man held deputies at bay for three hours before surrendering.
