ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state's comptroller says the median per-pupil spending for school districts was $22,658.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released spending figures for the 2014-15 school year as part of a report highlighting statewide education trends.

DiNapoli says the mid-Hudson Valley had the highest median per-pupil spending rate at $26,636. Western New York was lowest at $19,776.

The comptroller says the range of spending levels can be attributed to regional cost differences. And he noted there are significant variations in per-pupil spending within regions of the state.
