UPDATE: 05/26/2015 07:45am  Velardi is now facing multiple charges in connection with the incident which occurred this past week.

The charges include the following:

  • petit larceny (misdemeanors)
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance (seventh degree)
  • criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance outside of its original container (violation)

Velardi was previously arrested by Utica Police in July of 2014, charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession.

A Rome woman is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop.

According to a report released by the New Hartford Police Department on Monday, May 25, 2015, 32-year-old Amanda A. Velardi was taken into custody after he car was stopped following the receipt of a report by staff loss prevention staff at Walmart that she was suspected of taking more than three hundred dollars' worth of energy drinks from the store.

At the time of her arrest she was allegedly found to be in possession of two hypodermic syringes containing heroin and hydrocodone pills that were not in their original prescription container.  Police have not yet commented on whether any energy drinks were located as well.

Velardi was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court and sent to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $500.00 cash bail.

She is expected to return to court at a later date to answer the charges.
