EL CENTRO, Calif. (AP) — The Navy says a sailor has died in the Southern California desert from injuries sustained in a parachute jump during a training exercise.

Navy Special Warfare Group One said in a statement that the sailor died Monday in El Centro.

The sailor, whose name was not immediately released, was assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Command.

The Navy says an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

The Navy did not say exactly where the accident occurred, but the city about 100 miles east of San Diego near the Mexico border is home to Naval Air Facility El Centro.
