Utica, NY (WIBX) - After a slow holiday shopping season, Sears Holdings will close between 100 and 120 K-Mart and Sears stores.

According to the company, this year's sales were down more than five percent from last year's totals during the eight weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

Both store's figures are opposite industry trends, which showed an increase in total sales.

Chris Reese, store manager of the K-Mart in New Hartford, says his store was one of the few anomalies, making more money this year than last.

"We actually did... we're up in sales," Reese said. "Layaway is always a real strong suit for us, we do really well. That was really big for us all year. That's really our primary driving factor for K-Mart stores, is our layaway department."

According to Reese, there is no word yet as to which stores will close or an exact number. Sears Holdings has more than 4,000 stores throughout the U-S and Canada.
