Utica, NY (WIBX) - United States Senators Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are urging the Federal Government to grant individual disaster assistance to Upstate New York homeowners affected by April storms.

With the millions of dollars that April's storms caused, the two Senators wrote to President Obama and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate today, to try and reverse the earlier decision that denies New York counties individual assistance from the storm's damages.

So why is this being talked about now, in August?

In the letter, the Senators wrote "As water has receded, officials have been able to draw a clearer picture of the damages this storm has caused."

As many homeowners are still rebuilding, letter urges Obama and FEMA's Administrator to act on the request as soon as possible.
