Utica Police arrested four people in the Oneida Square area as part of an effort to ramp up enforcement in the area because of the increase in crime there.

Police say Alita Pearson, 36, was arrested for Petit Larceny after allegedly stealing a cell phone from another person.

John Berube, 49, was charged with two counts of trespassing after he was found squatting in a vacant apartment building.

Khaliq Hasan Hussein, 23, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell after he was allegedly found with heroin.

Roberto Rodriguez, 37, was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found to have heroin with intent to sell.

The UPD says over the past week, they have issued numerous tickets for quality of life issues like littering and open container violations.
